About SRME

Our Background

Student Run Manufacturing Enterprise (SRME) is based on a successful program model initiated by Northwest Industrial Resource Center (NWIRC) that provides high school students with the real-world experience of running all aspects of a manufacturing enterprise – while making real parts for real companies.

NWIRC https://nwirc.org is a not-for-profit entity serving manufacturers throughout 13 counties of northwest and north central Pennsylvania. NWIRC developed the student-run manufacturing enterprise model in 2020 and since that time has assisted seven school districts within their footprint to establish unique programs for their high schools. As one of seven centers that comprise the Pennsylvania Manufacturing Extension Partnership (PA MEP) and part of the MEP national network, NWIRC’s mission is to help manufacturers address business challenges. With workforce being at the forefront, the organization is vital to connecting high schools to local industry. (Find the MEP Center in your region here: https://www.nist.gov/mep/centers).

In a student-run manufacturing enterprise, students are connected to local industry partners and build relationships that lead to career opportunities in advanced manufacturing.
